This project was the second project to succeed in the bootcamp UX/UI at Ironhack.

Overview : group of 4 with as learning goals : How yo define a problem ? & How to solve a problem ?

Brief : How might we help museums and other public institutions bring people closer and fulfill their mission to preserve and activate cultural heritage in the 21st century ?

  1. Empathize | Develop a deep understanding of the problem
    User research :
    a. User Research (Survey & Interviews) :

First, we wrote some assumptions what we will validate or not with our researches.

We created a Google Form to realize quantitative research and learn more about the habits of people regarding the museums and exhibitions (we collect more than 100 answers).

The research was in French and we collected some interesting datas

Then, we organized a qualitative research doing 4 interviews by person to put forward the pain points of the visitors and to collect insights to propose a new experience app.

Some “verbatims” colected

We highlighted some key learnings as for example :
- People have a real interest for the museums but we noted some external constraints : lack of time, they don’t have someone to go with them…
- The price is not a problem for them
- Independently of the age category people don’t go so often to the museum

We created different personas regarding our interviews :
- The main one : Laurent, 35 ans “I like the culture but I don’t take enough time to go to the museum”.
- Two secondary personas : Art student & a retired person.
- One extreme persona : A touristic guide.

We collected some user needs as :
- They need time to visit the museums and appreciate take their time inside
- They need to visit awesome places and live exceptional and unique experiences
- They need to get memories regarding what they see and what they feel
- They need interactivity…
These feedbacks are also linked to some user pain points as for example the fact that they think that some exhibitions are boring, sometimes they miss the news about the exhibitions that take place in their city, their children are not interested in the museums…

To formalize our observations, we realized a Empathy Map : to put forward what our persona hear, feel, think, does and what are his goals and problems.

Empathy Map

We also created two versions of the customer journey map :
1. We put forward the main motivation of the persona and his main goal.
We also indicated the problems encountered by the user and the design opportunities.
2. We realized a second version that predict the user journey using our new app (that resolves his problems).

First version of the Customer Journey Map

2. Define |Clearly articulate the problem
Problem & hypothesis statement / User Journey

We realized an Affinity Map that presents by thematics the feedbacks of the users after our interviews.
We learned how to organize as a real UX Designer the feedbacks of the users and as a team we voted to decide on which subjects we will concentrate our efforts and focus our solutions as the feedbacks were reaaally rich.

Affinity Map

Interpreting the data : We enriched our hypothesis and wrote our problem statement using the formula “How might we…” (HWW Statement).

Thematics and Problem Statement

3. Ideate |Brainstorm all possible solutions
Brainstorming & ideation :
We conducted a brainstorming formalized by a crazy 8.
We iterated a lot of possible solutions and put together the similar ones to work on it.

Brainstorming and possible solutions and features

Iterate, iterate and iterate :
Then, each person prototyped the screens with the features of our app.
Our app already integrated a lot of features that can permit to the user to : identity easily and rapidly the current exhibitions around him, also integrating the recommendations of different users, personalized recommandations, a immersive phygital experience, quizz and experiences including a reward program…

As it’s important to test directly at the beginning of a project we realized a concept testing with our classmates.
We got feedbacks to improve our solution ! We really got a “new eye” on our app proposal.

Obviously, then we created a second version of the app integrating the feedbacks of our potential users.
The different screens of our app really integrate the different thematics that we hightlighted during the definition state of our project :

ACCESSIBILITY

INTERACTIVITY

MEMORABILITY

4. Success Metrics | How to evaluate the succes of the app :
We can hightlight :
- the possible increase of the museums frequentation
- the time people spend at the museum
- recommendations (visitors feedbacks)

5. Next Steps & Personal Learnings
We will need to conduct a lot of other user tests to improve our app and conduct it to the next level 🚀.
Then it will be important to realize mid-fidelity prototypes and test them, test and test…

I have learned how to propose a solution really quickly as we didn’t have a lot of time.
I developed my skills regarding each stage of a UX/UI design project.
I have also learned the importance of user feedbacks (with the concept testing) to improve our concept and be sure that it’s well understand by the potential users.

Personal statement at this stage : don’t give up and improve your skills 💪.

Thanks for reading !
